Dash vs Slackbot

Dash vs Slackbot: Slack's built-in AI, or a teammate with no per-person message limit.

Slackbot comes with Slack's Business+ plan and knows your Slack. But each person gets 15 messages a week, and it only works in Slack. Dash is one AI teammate your whole team shares, with no per-person count, in Slack, Microsoft Teams and over text.

Slackbot

Useful in its lane

Slackbot is the AI built into Slack. It searches your Slack history, connected apps and the web and answers with citations, and you can tag it into a channel to pull a long thread together for everyone. Small businesses can use Slack CRM to have it create accounts, update records and draft follow-ups, and you can talk to it by voice on your phone.

Quick take

Slackbot comes with Slack's Business+ plan and knows your Slack. But each person gets 15 messages a week, and it only works in Slack. Dash is one AI teammate your whole team shares, with no per-person count, in Slack, Microsoft Teams and over text.

Side by side

The practical buying comparison.

Axis Dash Slackbot
What it costs you

One shared plan for the whole workspace, no per-seat fees. Free credits to start, no credit card.

Tradeoff

Comes with Business+ ($15 per user a month billed annually, or $18 monthly) and Enterprise+. Free and Pro get only a trial or preview, and it doesn't reset unless you upgrade.

Edge
How much each person can ask

No per-person count. Requests come out of the workspace's shared credits, whoever sends them.

Edge

On Business+, 15 messages per member a week, resetting on Monday. Enterprise+ has no message limit. Extra use on other plans needs Salesforce Flex Credits.

Tradeoff
Scheduled work

Recurring and one-time tasks on the schedule you set, such as every weekday at 8 AM or every 6 hours. Dash reads back the schedule and where the result goes, and offers a test run first.

Edge

Three automatic task runs a day. After that, Slackbot asks if you'd like to run tasks manually.

Tradeoff
Guests and shared channels

A workspace admin decides whether Dash replies in channels with guests or Slack Connect members, and whether it answers them with limited or full access.

Edge

Guests and Frontline Members don't have access to Slackbot.

Tradeoff
Where you can ask

Slack, Microsoft Teams, SMS (including group texts) and web chat, as one teammate.

Edge

Slack, including by voice on your phone.

Tradeoff
Before it acts

Dash reads from your tools on its own. Sending email, posting publicly, writing to a CRM or spending money waits for approval in the thread, and by default anyone with access to that connection can approve.

Slack says every agentic action gets a full audit trail and human-in-the-loop approval, "so nothing runs without your say."

How Dash works

Ask. Approve. Ship. Remember.

01 βœ“

Ask in chat

DM Dash or mention it in the channel where the work already lives.

02 βœ“

Dash pulls context

It reads the relevant channel context, memory, files, and connected tools.

03 βœ“

It drafts the output

Reports, docs, dashboards, CRM updates, emails, PR reviews, or summaries.

04 βœ“

You approve risk

Review actions according to your connection permissions and task approval settings.

05 βœ“

Dash ships

The result lands in Slack or Microsoft Teams with owners, links, and next steps attached.

06 βœ“

It remembers

The format and preference become part of the team rhythm for next time.

In chat

Three workflows where Dash should win.

Illustrative workflows, not customer results. Numbers are examples; execution depends on connected tools, permissions, and approval settings.

@Dash it's Thursday and I'm still chasing month-end. Find every Stripe invoice more than 30 days past due and draft reminders.

Dash App

I found seven Stripe invoices more than 30 days past due.

  • βœ“Two were paid this morning, so I left them out
  • βœ“Five reminders drafted, oldest first
  • βœ“Each one links the invoice and its due date

Send 5 reminders

Nothing is sent until someone approves.

Approve Edit

Why it wins

Five reminders, one approval, and nobody copied an invoice link by hand.

@Dash every weekday at 8 AM, noon, 3 PM and 6 PM, check Shopify for orders that haven't shipped after two days and post them here.

Dash App

Here's the schedule I'll set up:

  • βœ“Weekdays at 8 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM and 6 PM, your time
  • βœ“Shopify orders not shipped after two days
  • βœ“Posted in #ops, oldest first

Want a test run now before I schedule it?

Why it wins

Four checks a day is one more than Slackbot's three automatic task runs. Dash runs all four.

Dana (guest) 11:20 AM

@Dash can you send me the link to last month's report again?

Dash App

Here's the September report that was shared in this channel on October 2.

Why it wins

Dana's a guest in your Slack, so she can't use Slackbot. She can ask Dash, because your admin set it to reply to guests.

Choose Dash if

  • βœ“Your work starts in Slack or Microsoft Teams and crosses business tools.
  • βœ“You want outputs, owners, approvals, and follow-up in one thread.
  • βœ“You want one AI teammate for the whole team, not per-seat math.
  • βœ“You need memory that improves repeated workflows over time.

Where Dash is better

Slackbot's weekly cap is per person, so whoever asks the most runs out first. If that's the ops lead who runs the business in chat, they can be out of messages by Wednesday. Dash doesn't keep a count per person. Their requests come out of the same shared credits as everyone else's.

Slackbot also leaves people out: guests, Frontline Members and anyone on Microsoft Teams. Dash is the same teammate in Microsoft Teams and over text as it is in Slack, so a team split between Slack and Teams, or someone in the field with only a phone, can ask it too.

FAQ

Questions before you pick.

Does Dash replace Slackbot?

It doesn't have to. Both can work in the same workspace, and you can tag either one in the same channel. Slackbot is great at finding things in Slack. Dash takes the requests that run past Slackbot's limits: your busiest person's daily asks, more than three scheduled runs a day, guests in client channels and teammates on Microsoft Teams.

Does Dash have a weekly message limit like Slackbot?

No. Dash doesn't count messages per person. Your plan's credits set how much the team can do, not who's asking.

Does Slackbot work in Microsoft Teams?

No. Slackbot is part of Slack. If your team uses Microsoft Teams, or both, Dash works in Teams the same way it works in Slack, with the same approvals and connected tools.

What does Slackbot cost?

Slackbot comes with two Slack plans, priced per user a month: Business+ at $15 billed annually ($18 paid monthly) and Enterprise+ at $45 billed annually. Free and Pro get only a trial or preview. Dash is priced per workspace, with no per-seat fees.
